I hand sculpt this elegant hair comb out of rare and exotic Macassar Ebony. This piece of ebony has wonderful warm honey brown highlights that serve as a perfect backdrop for the centerpiece for this hair comb - a stunning Big and beautiful black Onyx cabochon. The onyx is beautifully set in a lovely handcrafted sterling silver frame with wonderful detailing. A dramatic and eye-catching design to be sure!

Ebony, famous for its rich jet-black color, has been used in the finest furniture and musical instrument making for centuries. It's one of the world's most prized and expensive hardwoods! At just under 5 1/4" inches in length by 2 1/8" wide, this hair comb will work well for most hair types.

The design idea for the shape of these hair combs came from a series of beautiful carved wood weaving combs I saw at a museum exhibit some time ago. I made a few modifications to make them better suited for use as hair jewelry. For fit and comfort, each hair comb is curved ( like a comma) to follow the shape of the head and the prongs are further apart and wider for strength.

We are a zero waste shop. Furniture cutoffs become jewelry boxes, jewelry box cut offs become hair pins and barrettes and the smallest pieces become jewelry. We've even had our sawdust used in kiln firings. Silver scrap is recycled too.
