This wood hair pin is handcrafted from Curly Maple Wood. Average size 5 1/2" - 5 3/4" long.
We've been making wood hair pin for over 25 years. They have a specially designed shaped top and profile (curving in and back out again - like an hourglass) which helps them maintain a tight firm hold in the hair. Edges are smoothed and transitions are eased for a no snag safe hold in your hair.
Maple (Fiddle-back / Curly / Tiger) (Acer saccharum) The term fiddleback comes from the use of this extraordinarily unusual grain pattern in the manufacture of musical instruments, most commonly associated with the famous luthier Antonio Stradivarius. Stradivarius built many of his violins using this type of figure on the backs of his violins, hence the term "fiddleback." Each pin is individually handmade and may have some slight variations in appearance.
Each of my wooden hair pins comes with detailed instructions explaining how to use it.
I handcraft my wood hair pins from many sustainable sourced domestic and exotic hardwoods. Pictured in the middle photo are some examples from left to right (bocote, birdseye maple, wenge, satinwood, snakewood, bloodwood, quilted maple, purpleheart, tulipwood) Most of these can be found in my store. If not, they may be available by special order. I can also customize lengths.
Hair Pins are much easier to use than most people think (there's a trick to getting them to stay in tightly), these wood hair picks can be worn in a number of hairstyles and updos including buns, French twists, knots, chignons and many others.
