This wood hair pin is handcrafted from Birdseye Maple Average size 5"x 3/4". Each hairpin is handmade. Photo is example of hairpin in a specific wood type. Each will have some slight variations in wood appearance.

Bird's-eye Maple (Acer saccharum)
Of all the "exotic" domestic hardwoods, bird's-eye maple is among the most highly prized, for it's distinctive clusters of "bird's eyes" - those shimmering little bubbles of convoluted grain, often accompanied by satiny swirling grain or quilted figure. Few woods in the world are as dramatic, unique or sought after.

Many states in the Northeastern and North Central U.S. produce bird's-eye maple, but the best, finest textured wood comes from right here, in pristine Northern Michigan, where the climate and the soil provide ideal growing conditions for this rare and valuable timber!

I hand craft my wooden hair pins from many sustainable sourced domestic and exotic hardwoods. Pictured in the 2nd photo are some examples from left to right (bocote, birdseye maple, wenge, satinwood, snakewood, bloodwood, quilted maple, purpleheart, tulipwood) Most of these can be found in my store. If not, they may be available by special order. I can also customize lengths.

My wooden Hair Pins have a specially designed shaped top and profile (curving in and back out again - like an hourglass) which helps them maintain a tight firm hold in the hair. Hair Pins are much easier to use than most people think (there's a trick to getting them to stay in tightly), these wood hair picks can be worn in a number of hairstyles and updos including buns, French twists, knots, chignons and many others.

Each of my hair Pins comes with detailed instructions explaining how to use it.
