An elongated intricately detailed sterling silver Celtic knot adorns the front of this elegant handmade hair pin. It's hand sculpted in beautiful jet black Ebony wood (Diospyros crassiflora) from Africa.
Ebony, famous for its rich jet-black color, has been used in the finest furniture and musical instrument making for centuries. It's one of the world's most prized and expensive hardwoods! At 5 3/4 inches in length, this hairpin is a good size for most hair types. Each pin is individually handmade and may have some slight variations in appearance.
I handcraft hair pins from many sustainable sourced domestic and exotic hardwoods. Pictured in the 2nd photo are some examples from left to right (bocote, birdseye maple, wenge, satinwood, snakewood, bloodwood, quilted maple, purpleheart, tulipwood) Most of these can be found in my store. If not, they may be available by special order. I can also customize lengths.
Blue Heron Jewelry, hair accessories, and woodwork studios is a marriage of my two loves - sticks and stones (i.e. figured domestic and exotic hardwoods and fine gemstones). I began my jewelry career creating unique wood jewelry boxes, jeweled hair sticks, combs and barrettes. Soon, customers began asking for matching and coordinating jewelry designs and the jewelry end of the business was born. I have over 20 years experience in the fields of woodworking and jewelry design. My work has been featured in local and national print, movie and Television media and is private collections world wide.
