Spalting is one of my favorite wood figures because of their limitless variety of distinctive black lines that make each piece a true one-of-a-kind. They look to me like Chinese calligraphy or pen and ink landscapes. Though rare and difficult to find, the beauty of the patterns formed by spalting make for some of the most interesting inlays of fine boxes and is very sought after in the musical instrument industry as well.

These Barrettes are built to a very high standard for a lifetime of wear and are gallery quality. We use AAA premium materials: the world's finest sustainably sourced exotic and domestic hardwoods, precious metals and gem grade gemstones. Each piece is lovingly hand crafted one at a time in our northern Michigan studio.

I've been making wooden barrettes for over 20 years. My barrettes are all made from SOLID wood.
**Never a thin layer of veneer over a cheaper base wood**

They are screwed not glued to the made in France clips for a strong, durable, mess free joint. Glue joints on barrettes will eventually fail over time. These will not.

We are a zero waste shop: furniture cutoffs become jewelry boxes, jewelry box cut offs become hair pins and barrettes and the smallest pieces become jewelry. We've even had our sawdust used in kiln firings. Silver scrap is recycled too.

Barrette clips vary quite a bit in quality. I use only the highest quality French Barrette Clips on all my barrettes. They have proven themselves over time to be the best available.
