I hand carve this 5"long / 1 1/4" wide hair comb from Tulipwood Rosewood. I then inlay a circle of bloodwood to showcase the cheerful sterling silver flower that adorns the front of the comb.
Tulipwood- (Brazil) Pinky to yellowish with stripes of rose and salmon. Pleasant odor when freshly cut - it smells a bit like flowers
Bloodwood- (Brosimum Rubescens- Central & South America) Also known as Satine and Cardinal Wood for its strawberry red to crimson red coloring.
4 Prong Hair combs - Our Four Prong Combs can be used in much the same way as our hair pins and sticks. The extra prongs often offer a bit firmer hold for finer hair types or some added hold for harder to secure hair styles. They are wider and shorter than our Three Prong Combs.
Blue Heron Jewelry and woodwork studios is a marriage of my two loves - sticks and stones (i.e. figured domestic and exotic hardwoods and fine gemstones). I began my jewelry career creating unique wood jewelry boxes, jeweled hair sticks, combs and barrettes. Soon, customers began asking for matching and coordinating jewelry designs and the jewelry end of the business was born. I have over 20 years experience in the fields of woodworking and jewelry design. My work has been featured in local and national print, movie and Television media and is private collections world wide.
